DIY Felt Pennants
You know when you feel like you’re entering a new era and you start to see the world through a different lens? I love when that happens. Currently I’m embarking upon a crafting era where all I want to do is make crafts, or read blogs about making crafts, or pin about crafts and IT IS SO FUN.
I’ve always been a big fan of art projects but between having babies, working full-time, and trying to keep the house in some semblance of order, my hobbies fell by the wayside. (Tale as old as time, right?) But now that my kids are older and it’s much easier to carve out time for myself, I’ve been feeling the itch to reclaim my old DIY ways. The other day Briar asked me what my goal for the summer is and without hesitation I told her that I want to “make lots of craft projects!” As a fellow crafting (and craft supply shopping) enthusiast, she seemed to approve of that answer.
So first up: felt pennants!
Recently I spotted the cutest felt pennants at an adorable stationery store in Ventura and it set me on a feverish path to make my own (for a fraction of the cost!).
Since I don’t have a proper electronic die cutting machine at the moment, I laid out the type in Illustrator and then printed them out to use as my template for hand-cutting the letters. It’s tedious but also strangely satisfying?
Once the letters were finished, I cut out the pennant shape from an oversized felt sheet and carefully adhered the letters with fabric glue.
From there, I added border colors to the left side and cut off the excess. Next time I think I’ll run them through the sewing machine for extra reinforcement.
And of course, I had to make one for Briar too!
Hot pink may be impossible to photograph 😅 but I can’t help but gravitate towards it.
Now I’m on a mission to make banners for birthdays, holidays, and every occasion in between…it’s just too much fun!
